not bad

My review on 2 5 inch Vehicle Recorder Dashboard Camcorder

2 5 inch Vehicle Recorder Dashboard Camcorder

Really easy to operate without reading the instructions. It came with English and Chinese leaflet.
Two push-button on the back of the main body.
Left one is power ON with ON symbol.
Right one push to start/stop Recording also function as "select" on the menu. Should silkscreen it RED.
Four push-button on the flip down TFT screen, all silkscreen from Left to Right on the bottom of the screen as Menu, Down, Up, Mode.
By default, record time set to two minutes, I set mine to the longest > 15 minutes.
It even record sound! Make sure you watch your language in case of in an accident :p
The battery cover kind of flimsy. If you don't open it too often would probably be okay.
The battery use BL-5C 3.7V 1050 mAh Lithium-Ion rechargeable.
The device fail to install on my Windows 7 x64 Bit. It's okay I just take the SD card plug in to the Desktop PC.

I am a truck driver and recently a man accused me of running over his dog,I did not however it did convince me of trying a dash cam.I bought this one because of price to try as a trial. To my surprise it does a lot more than I imagined.I stuck it on my windshield up in the high middle and plugged it in to the cig lighter.2 weeks went by and a window tinting car cut me off in traffic. If you go to my youtube you can see how awesome this cam is....PLUS the vid on youtube is my phone recording off my laptop...I'm not smart enough and have not the software to edit videos. The programming is a little funky on the cam, like setting the time and date, but if you play with it for awhile you will figure it out.The micro speaker play back is scratchy until you play back on your computer and as you can hear it is very adequate.I put a 2 g mem. card in and carry a spare now in case I need to save something...it's worth it! This cam far and above does what I need.I already have saved vids of 2 more close calls, just in case.Go to youtube and look me up unitruth ,the vid is "cut off by window tinting car 40 mph evansville IN." [...] see for yourself. The audio is crappy on the cam but once plugged in or memory card inserted in laptop you can hear the audio great!

Length:: 5:30 Mins

For starters you're going to need one of these: Transcend 16 GB SDHC Class 10 Flash Memory Card TS16GSDHC10E You can get the 32 GB size as well but I know the 16 GB one works.

I uploaded a somewhat lengthy video from the unit with a fairly detailed review. Please note I had to shrink the file so it would fit under amazon's 100MB limit. The actual file is almost 500MB for 5 minutes and is 640x480. But what I uploaded should give a decent idea of the video quality. For this item please remember price matters. It is a cheap piece of hardware and it shows. I mention in my video review that I could not even use the power adaptor that came with the DVR because it caused interference on my FM radio. I had to use the adaptor that I had from my Garmin Nuvi 350. But, that worked so I'm less irritated than i would otherwise be.

Despite the problems I gave it 5 stars because of how cheap it is. Frankly I wish they'd double the price and up the build quality. But if you just want to play with something like this I think this is a good way to start.

Continuous recording. Auto start when ignition is turned on. Auto stop when ignition is turned off. High resolution 1280x960. Over 5 hours with 16G card. When card is full, deletes oldest segment and continues recording. Also does still photos in color or monochrome. Audio also. Can be used as a USB web cam. OS agnostic; appears as a disk drive. Works with GNU/Linux. MJPEG (AVI). Manual sucks, is not clear, and is inaccurate but can be worked around. I'm ordering another as a rear view cam, and one for my son.

I read various reviews on many vehicle camera recorders. Everything about this unit has worked great. Not sure why some have had problems. Clear and useful video. Especially like the date and time stamp. Direct sunlight, as with most cameras, does prevent a clear pictures. Instructions may not be as easy for some to follow without trial and error. Only difficulty I found is that the adjustment knobs can be tightened too tightly by hand and cause the plastic to break. Just be sure to use 2 hands and do not over tighten.

I bought this dashcam to put in my car as a 'just in case'. It was cheap enough to justify the purchase and I figured why not. The dashcam feels and looks pretty cheap, but is exactly what I expected. It does it's job and is virtually maintenance free. I turn on my car, the camera turns on and starts recording. I turn off my car, the camera turns off. The menu is a bit wonky but once you figure out that you have to use the top two buttons to select things and not the buttons right under the screen, it's fine. Capture quality is pretty mediocre, however it's good enough. It's just as good as those youtube videos. You are able to distinguish cars and you'll be able to see the license plates of cars right in front of you. Good enough for me.

The dashcam will automatically delete the oldest video files and you can set how large you want chunks to be (I set mine to 5 minutes). The IR LEDs are pretty useless unless you're up close. It also keeps track of date and time as long as you don't remove the battery (comes with a flat lithium battery). My dashcam also came with a very very obnoxious beep, which I don't think you can disable. I ordered another one to put in my other car and this 'beep' was far better and actually bearable. I ended up opening the first one and cutting the speaker wires so now it's totally silent. The power button pulsates a dim blue when it's recording. You can also disable the recording of sound so no one will be able to hear my terrible taste in music and my singing.

On the highest video setting, my 8gb SD card was able to hold about 4 hours of footage.

Overall, this is a great value and does it's job.

I just received this camera yesterday. I also bought a 16 gb memory card for it. Installed the battery and after a minute figured out how to configure it using the menu. For the price it is fairly well constructed. The mount is excellent. It has a 270 degree lense which captures a wide field of view. I placed it on my windshield easily enough. Using the power cord to power the device makes it turn on and record when I start the car. There is very little vibration coming through the mount to distort the video. I use the 640x480 size because it will be the most stable and smallest file size. Basically it does exactly what I expected it to do and the price cannot be beat. I previously had purchased a mount so I could use my Flip video recorder but that was a hassle. This camera is installed and runs automatically so I don't have to fool with it anymore. It is cheap insurance to document what happens in front of your car. I will be buying another one for my wifes car. I recommend this camera for the quality, price and ease of use.

Not bad for 21 bucks. You have to read a lot of the reviews to get how this thing works but if you have patience, you'll get it. I only installed a 2 gig sd card in this thing but it seems to work fine. If you want hi def then you have to go with something more expensive. This will capture what is needed in any scenario to prove a point. I cant read license plates unless I'm right up on their tail so don't expect this thing to do that for you. Overall a 5 star rating from me because it does what it says, records, .. don't expect it to perform miracles or to be anything other than what it claims.... nice unit, looks cool, for those that complain that it won't hold to the windshield, you are obviously doing it wrong.... thank you
